What is BCS?
BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, formerly known as the British Computer Society until 2009, is a professional body and a learned society that represents those working in information technology and computer science, both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
BCS is on a mission to ensure everyone’s experience with technology is positive. It's something that's been part of their mission since 1957.
BCS is ensuring the digital journey is safe and positive for everyone, by raising standards of competence and conduct across the IT industry and tackling the ethical challenges face along the way.
Our Mission
Making IT good for society by influencing technology for the betterment of individuals and communities. This involves not only ensuring the proficiency and ethical behavior of IT professionals but also supporting the responsible and inclusive use of technology to address common challenges and enhance people's lives by fostering a digital landscape where technology serves as a force for positive change, innovation, and empowerment, ultimately creating a safer, more equitable, and more prosperous world for all.
BCS Student Chapter of KDU
Established in 2021, the BCS Student Chapter of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) stands as a non-profit organization driven by an enthusiastic community of students. Our primary objective is to organize, implement, and promote engaging academically beneficial activities and events for computing undergraduates at KDU. Serving as a vibrant platform, our society encourages collaboration and knowledge-sharing among like-minded undergraduates across various IT disciplines.
Moreover, our chapter serves as a bridge connecting students with industry professionals, offering invaluable opportunities to establish meaningful connections and expand their professional network. By facilitating interactions with industry experts, we empower our members to gain insights into real-world applications of technology and to explore potential career paths within the IT sector. In essence, the BCS Student Chapter of KDU endeavors to empower students to excel academically, thrive professionally, and make meaningful contributions to the ever-evolving field of information technology.
Our Objectives
- Organize, implement, and promote engaging and academically supportive activities and events for computing students at KDU, aiming to cultivate an environment where students feel inspired, empowered, and supported in their pursuits.
- Establish a professional network by building connections between the chapter, BCS member groups, and relevant external bodies, enhancing opportunities for chapter members to access resources and insights from industry leaders.
- Enable students to grasp the intricacies of the IT industry through guest speaker sessions, thought-provoking events, and networking opportunities, providing awareness of industry trends and practical insights into various domains within the technology sector.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and skill development by creating platforms for students to engage in collaborative projects and workshops, building a culture of innovation and creativity within the student community.
