The vision of the Department of Computer Engineering is to become a competitive entity in the field of computer engineering in the island and the world and to create graduates with international recognition, qualified with the knowledge, skills in modern computing systems and capable of taking leadership positions.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Computer Engineering is to maintain the academic and research activities in the accordance with internationally recognized programmes and the rapid changes in the industry and training students to acquire, develop knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities.

History of the Department

The Department of Computer Engineering was established under the Faculty of Computing on 15th January 2018 and formulated as a single entity to offer a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Engineering degree. The first batch (Intake 33) for the Computer Engineering degree was recruited in the year 2016 and the batch consisted of eleven students. At present, the department has served and serving more than 100 students. In addition, the staff of the department has consisted of nine members including senior lecturers, probationary lecturers, instructors, and temporary instructors.

The Department of Computer Engineering is responsible for the proper conduct of lectures and practical classes. Moreover, the department supervises final year individual research projects and also industrial visits to broaden and enhance the horizons of knowledge of the undergraduates.

At present, four laboratories are controlled by the Department of Computer Engineering namely the Open-Source Research Laboratory, Electronics and Simulation Laboratory, Computer Engineering Workshop, and Intelligent research laboratory to conduct a wide variety of research and practice for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Computing and also provides facilities to other faculties in the university.
