Distance Learning During Lockdown
The Faculty of Computing attached to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University has been conducting their academic activities using online services during the lockdown time period as a result of the current global COVID-19 situation. Staff members have been conducting their lectures via Moodle and other platforms together with the assistance of email and instant messaging. Some lecturers have even started to conduct online video lectures. Students have been given activities and assignments that are needed to be submitted online. Time tables and important messages are dispatched to the relevant parties by the Department Heads in a timely manner.
KDU’s first online Faculty Board meeting was held on Tuesday 31st at 1200hrs which was chaired by the Rector Southern campus and the Dean Faculty of Computing by using Microsoft Teams platform. More than 20 staff members attended this meeting. Action plans to carry out daily academic activities, problems faced by students as well as staff during the current situation and other academic matters were discussed.
The academia has been regularly interacting with the students in various instant messaging and social media platforms in order to increase their morale, to motivate them with their studies and to extend their camaraderie during these troubled times.
