In a remarkable demonstration of peer-to-peer mentorship and support, Intake 38 of the Faculty of Computing (FOC) at Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) organized a comprehensive mentoring session titled “අපි FOC & Thrive” for the incoming Intake 41 students. This initiative, held on May 2nd, 2024, was conducted in collaboration with the CSSL GenZ chapter at KDU.

The event was organized as an initiative of Dean Faculty of Computing, Dr. Asela Gunasekara and under the guidance of lecturer, Mrs. Dharani Abeysinghe. The event was attended by esteemed faculty members gracing the moment. The session featured informative presentations and interactive sessions led by Intake 38 students, such as Dinuka Vidushan, Aduwa Geethanjana, Himasha Randil, Thimal Caldera, Nimesha Rozanne, Chandraprakash Ramesh, Gayashani Divyanjalee, Thisura Thibbotuge, and Dinithi Amarasinghe.

The day’s agenda was meticulously planned, covering various aspects of the FOC experience. Intake 38 shared insights on batch fellowship, faculty-based societies, sports involvement, and achieving a healthy work-life balance.

The CSSL GenZ chapter at KDU played a crucial role in the “Thrive” session, providing valuable guidance on academic support and exam preparation. This collaborative effort between the senior and junior intakes, alongside faculty support, underscored the strong sense of community and mentorship within the FOC.

Notably, Intake 38 took the opportunity to express gratitude to Dr. Asela Gunasekara, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, with a token of appreciation as he stepped down from his role as Dean Faculty of Computing.

As the event concluded, the Intake 41 students departed with renewed enthusiasm and confidence, ready to embark on their academic journey within the Faculty of Computing. The “අපි FOC” session not only equipped them with essential knowledge but also fostered an appreciation for the supportive atmosphere that characterizes the FOC community.
