CODEJAM was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), at the University of Moratuwa for the 40th anniversary celebration of CSE in 2025. CODEJAM was specifically designed to bring together passionate undergraduates and school students who thrive on challenges, embrace innovation and push boundaries.
“Data Crunch” was a segment of the CODEJAM inter-university competition series designed to push the boundaries of Machine Learning and Data Science Skills while solving real world problems.
The competition was structured in two intense rounds allowing participants to apply their knowledge and showcase their innovation.
Stage 1 was a Machine Learning competition focused on tackling real-world data hosted on the Kaggle platform, attracting approximately 39 teams and generating over 428 submissions.
Stage 2 featured an Advanced Machine Learning and Data Science Challenge, where participants were tested on their comprehensive understanding of the full ML lifecycle. Finalist teams were required to present their solutions to a panel of expert judges during the final event held at the University of Moratuwa.
One of our KDU team – Dinushi Rathnayake, Rusiru Withanage and Gayan Perera of Intake 40 from the Department of Computational Mathematics, Faculty of Computing was honored to secure 2nd place among the 11 teams that qualified for the final round.
