Faculty of Computing Student Symposium 2021

Faculty of Computing Student Symposium, 2021 of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, was held for the second consecutive year on the 17th of December 2021 on an online platform.

The FOC Student Symposium is an excellent open forum, for students and enthusiasts alike to learn and share their knowledge in various disciplines associated with the field of Computing. The primary purpose of the FOC Student Symposium is to provide an opportunity for new researchers to meet and share their new ideas and experiences.

Almost 150 research papers were received for the conference by students of various computing disciplines. After a double-blind peer review process, 65 papers were selected to be presented in 12 parallel sessions under the five main disciplines which include Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, and Information Systems.

The welcome address was delivered by the Rector Southern Campus, Major General EADP Edirisinghe and The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence) Brigadier W Chandrasiri respectively.

Plenary Session was chaired by Dr (Mrs) N Wedasinghe. Two main keynote speeches were delivered by Dr Thushara Weerawardana on the topic of “Impact of Digital Technologies on Future Industries” and President of Internet Governance, Chennai Chapter of India, Professor N Sudha Buwaneshwari on “cyber threat intelligence.”

The symposium also comprised of an online project exhibition on multidisciplinary research activities in the computing domain.

The Conference chair Dr Asela Gunasekara and the three conference Co-Chairs Dr Budditha Hettige, Mrs Mihiri Sirisooriya, Dr (Mrs) Nirosha Wedasinghe and the whole Faculty of Computing organized  the activities of the second FOC student symposium.
