The undergraduates of Intake 38 of the Data Science and Business Analytics Degree Program, Faculty of Computing, participated in an industrial field visit to Ascentic Pvt (Ltd), a Sweden-Lankan software company. Mrs. DU Vidanagama, Head of the Department of Computational Mathematics, Mrs. ERC Sadamali, Lecturer, and Ms. Deshani Madhubhashini joined as academia from the Department of Computational Mathematics. The company organized valuable sessions on Industrial Data Science and Trends, Bridging the Gap between Academia vs. Industry, Kickstarting Your Career, Professional Ethics, and Life of a Data Science Intern. The resource personnel were Mr. Gihan Liyanage, Ms. Dilky Felsinger, Mr. Jeypriya David, Mr. Atchuthan Senthilkumaran, Ms. Wasana Gallage, and Ms. Kirthika Senathiraja. 

During the visit, the data science development team of the company shared their experiences and insights on the challenges they faced in the industry and how they overcame them, as well as the company’s approach to data governance and how they ensure data integrity and security. This was an excellent opportunity for the undergraduates to learn about the data science industry and gain valuable insights from experienced professionals.
