The Entrepreneurial Support, Industrial Training, and Career Guidance Unit (eICU) of the Faculty of Computing and Department of Information Technology at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, in collaboration with Mr. Hiran Lowe, Senior Software Engineer at 99x and Visiting Lecturer at the university, organized an industry visit to 99x, a leading software company in Colombo. This initiative offered on 27th March 2025 to Intake 40 Information Technology students a valuable opportunity to experience the IT industry firsthand.

The industry visit featured insightful discussions led by four experts from 99x, covering key areas such as data structures and algorithms, the IT working environment, intern hiring processes, cloud computing, and professional certifications. The speakers, including Mr. Savindu Bandara, Mr. Yohan Gunathilaka, Mr. Kavish Nanayakkara and Mr. Povindu Samarasekara shared their expertise and provided valuable guidance on navigating the evolving technology landscape.

Adding to the significance of the visit, Mr. Anura Adhikari, the Director – Technology, engaged in an interactive discussion with the students after the sessions, sharing his experiences and vision for the future of the software industry. His words of encouragement and professional wisdom inspired the students, helping them align their academic journey with industry expectations.

The students actively participated, engaging with the speakers through insightful questions and discussions. This visit not only expanded their knowledge but also reinforced the connection between academia and industry needs. The event concluded with deep appreciation for the management and team of 99x, as well as the IT department, for their invaluable support and guidance in making this visit a success.
