Networking Workshop 2
The second industrial networking workshop covered industrial networking, operating systems, and virtualization. This workshop, organized by senior lecturer Mr. RPS Kathriarachchi, was held on February 28, 2024, in the Faculty of Computing, Southern Campus. In total, 39 IT undergraduate students participated in this workshop. Students got fundamental knowledge about Linux on VMWare with the Lubuntu operating system.
Mr. RPS Kathriarachchi delivered a sound explanation about VMWare, hypervisors, open-source operating systems, how to install and update software in open-source operating systems, and how to install Python with a practical demonstration. After that, students started their practical sessions, and they practiced exercises. Students could enhance their knowledge and get hands-on experience installing open-source operating systems like Lubuntu and VMWare workstations, installing Python, doing some updates, and running Python programs too. Students discussed subject matters with Mr. RPS Kathriarachchi, and he shared his knowledge with them.
This workshop not only taught students about Linux on VMWare with Lubuntu, but it also helped build infrastructure for final year projects. Finally, we need to remind ourselves that working with open-source software and operating systems is an essential skill for the IT industry.
