SEGP 4.0: Mastering Requirement Engineering – Blueprint for Software Development

The Department of Information Technology of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University-Southern Campus organized SEGP 4.0, a guest talk at FOC building RW 0.2, on August 31, 2024, aimed at the undergraduates of the department of Information Technology. The session featured Ms. Hansini Weerasinghe, a distinguished Senior Business Solutions Engineer and Senior Business Analyst, who led an insightful discussion on the pivotal subject of requirement engineering.

Ms. Weerasinghe, an accomplished professional with an impressive academic and professional background, graduated with First Class Honors from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University with a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology. Her dedication to research was evident early in her academic career, culminating in her receiving the prestigious Research Excellence Award in 2020. She made history by becoming the first-ever recipient of the Best Research Student award at the university.

During the session, Ms. Hansini Weerasinghe led an insightful discussion on the fundamentals of requirement engineering, emphasizing its crucial role in aligning software development with business needs. She began by exploring what requirement engineering truly entails, stressing that it’s not just about gathering a list of features but understanding the deeper needs and goals of all stakeholders—from end-users to developers and business leaders. This set the stage for a deeper exploration of how to effectively identify, document, and manage requirements. She furtherly provided a comprehensive overview, highlighting the importance of clearly defining and managing requirements to ensure successful project outcomes.
