SEGP – GT 1.0 - A Guest Talk on Cyber Security Operations and Cyber Threat Intelligence

The Department of Information Technology of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University-Southern Campus hosted SEGP GT 1.0, an online guest talk via Zoom on July 13, 2024, for Intake 40 undergraduates. The event featured Mr. Sivamoganathan Sutharsan, a distinguished alumnus and Senior Engineer in Cyber Security at eBuilder.

The session focused on Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC) and Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI). Mr. Sutharsan introduced CSOC fundamentals, highlighting its role in real-time incident management, proactive threat detection, and SIEM systems, as well as the importance of network security protocols and mitigation strategies. For CTI, he explained its cybersecurity applications, emphasizing gathering, analyzing, and disseminating threat information. Understanding threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and using threat intelligence platforms, is crucial. Both CSOC and CTI require knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, continuous learning, and strong analytical skills.

Students actively participated in the session, bringing interesting conversations and smart questions to enhance their learning experience.Mr. Sutharsan’s approachable demeanor and expertise created an engaging and informative environment.

SEGP GT 1.0 concluded successfully, providing students with a profound understanding of CSOC and CTI.
